Gerdau Ameristeel is a recycling leader in the steel industry, making productive use of post-consumer and post-industrial material – manufacturing structural steel products from as much as 98% recycled raw material. At Gerdau Ameristeel’s Midlothian, TX plant, our shredder processes almost 600,000 tons of cars and light scrap every year.
For more than 10 years, Gerdau Ameristeel has used an innovative floatation technology to separate non- iron metals retrieved through the shredding process, preserving hundreds of tons of material that would otherwise be placed in landfill. In this way, we continue our commitment of being a responsible, clean manufacturer – and a good neighbor in our community.
Gerdau Ameristeel’s commitment to our customers – and the environment – has led to our products meeting the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED version 2.1 requirements for Materials and Resources Credits 4.1 and 4.2. We may also help projects achieve LEED Materials and Resources credits 5.1 and 5.2, depending on location.
