Our History 1901 - Gerdau launches operations in Brazil 1956 - Florida Steel Corporation established 1960 - Florida Steel opens steel mill in Tampa, FL 1961 - Output expands with the opening of a steel mill in Charlotte, NC 1976 - Florida Steel opens steel mill in Jacksonville, FL 1981 - Steel production begins at the mill in Jackson, TN 1987 - Florida Steel acquires mill in Knoxville, TN 1989 - Gerdau enters North American market with the acquisition of the Courtice Steel Mill in Cambridge, Ontario 1996 - Florida Steel changes name to Ameristeel 1999 - Gerdau acquires Ameristeel, the second-largest rebar producer in the US, with four mills in Florida, North Carolina and Tennessee 2001– Ameristeel acquires the Birmingham Southeast Mill in Cartersville, GA, which becomes its fifth US mill 2002 – Ameristeel and Co-Steel complete the merger of their North American steelmaking operations, creating the Gerdau Ameristeel Corporation 2004 - Gerdau Ameristeel acquires four steel mills from North Star 2006 - Gerdau Ameristeel acquires Pacific Coast Steel, Sheffield Steel and Fargo Iron and Metal 2007 - Gerdau Ameristeel launches a strong expansion drive with the acquisition of Chaparral Steel, a large producer of structural and rebar steel in North America. It also acquires Enco Materials, Re-Bars Inc, Valley Placers, and D&R; 2008 - Expansion continues with the acquisition of Century Steel, Metro Recycling and Sand Springs Metal Processing 2010 – Gerdau S.A. acquires all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Gerdau Ameristeel not already owned. It also announces that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Gerdau Ameristeel, acquires TAMCO, one of the largest rebar mills in the Western U.S. 2011 – Gerdau S.A. celebrates 110 years in business by launching a new brand and logo across the globe, changing Gerdau Ameristeel's name to Gerdau. |
