Buffalo Division

Gerdau AmeriSteel Recycling Buffalo Division is located in Buffalo, New York and is Western New York’s only automobile shredder. The yard is located on a seventeen-acre site and produces approximately 70,000 tons annually of shredded scrap. In addition to that they handle an additional 40,000 to 45,000 tons of other ferrous scrap. They also shred 1,500 to 2,400 tons of non-ferrous annually, which includes transmissions, irony aluminum, sheet, and cast aluminum. The shredder itself is a 98-104 top discharge operated by a 4,000 horsepower electric motor. There is an Osborn Eddy current on-line, with the capabilities of off-line batch feeding. There are two 70-foot truck scales with radiation monitors. They are serviced by CSXT and have a rail scale for weighing approximately 100 railcars a month that they ship. They also place roll-offs for Industrial accounts and handle Demolition scrap.

There are 24 employees on site with an average employment date of over 15 years.
